Laser Therapy Equipment
SpectraVet Pro2-D Therapeutic Laser
I use a custom SpectraVet Pro2 therapeutic laser unit with dual probes, each with four 250 mW 810nm wavelength GaAlAs (Gallium Aluminum Arsenide) lasers. These probes have a power density of 2.5 W/cm2 and deliver 1 Joule every 4 seconds per laser. I have chosen this custom-made laser device for several reasons.
- The Class IIIb laser allows me to select with precision the amount of laser energy to be delivered to specific points of anatomy with little risk of over dosage.
- My custom-designed unit allows me to have flexibility in selection of energy factors, such as duration and frequency.
- The inventor and manufacturer of the professional equipment I use, whose name is Peter Jenkins, is a close colleague and is available both for the creation of custom laser therapy units and for follow-up consultation. Peter is active in the North American Association of Light Therapy.
Quantum WARP 10 LED
I have chosen the Quantum WARP 10 LED portable unit for superficial wounds and surgical sites because it provides an effective wavelength of light over a broad area of approximately two inches high by five inches wide. The unit produces 670 nm wavelength light with a power density of 50-80 mW/cm2 and a timed delivery of 88 seconds to provide 4.0-7.68 Joules/cm2. It is most useful in areas where penetration of light energy is not needed.
B-Cure Laser Vet Pro Class I Laser
I have chosen the B-Cure Laser Vet Pro units for home use by pet owners because they are simple to use and very effective at providing beneficial treatment. These units produce 250 mW of light energy at 808nm wavelength at 13kHz pulse frequency from a GaAlAs (Gallium Aluminum Arsenide) laser with a beam size of 1.0 cm x 4.5 cm. The low power allows use without protective eyewear. Of course, the laser should never be shined directly into the eyes of any person or animal. The application of laser energy at very low levels allows more frequent treatment, which research is showing to be as efficacious as higher levels of energy with lower frequency of application. This works well for at-home use where twice daily dosing is more convenient and less expensive than two or three treatments a week by a professional such as myself. Because laser treatment is a process, anything which makes completion of a series of treatments more likely leads to better results.These units were invented in Israel and have been in wide use in Europe. I had the chance to have dinner with one of the principals in the company at the World Congress of NAALT and WALT and learned about this invention. It is special in that it produces an even beam across a much larger area than most lasers. Impressed with the technology and its applicability to home use, I became one of the first to introduce these products to the US market.
